An individual is fit for work when they are in a state
– physical, mental and emotional – that enables him/her to
perform assigned tasks competently and in a manner that does not threaten
the safety or health of themselves or others.
There are three major areas affecting a person’s
fitness for work (FFW) – alcohol and other drugs, medical and health
issues, and fatigue and stress. All areas have the potential to cause
impairment and to create increased risk in the workplace.
An effective FFW policy aims to assist an organisation
to identify potential risks and manage safety issues related to the above
areas. It establishes a process to identify clear guidelines about the
roles and responsibilities of employees and the organisation in establishing,
maintaining and monitoring appropriate standards of FFW.
PRIMEPSYCH’s
approach to FFW is to establish the appropriate conditions to
constructively address both the employees’ and organisation’s
needs whilst maintaining and ensuring the ongoing safety integrity of
the workplace.
PRIMEPSYCH
offers assistance with Fitness for Work policy development and implementation
and also with Fitness for Work assessment, consulting, counselling and
management.
